The interior was changed in baroque style in the seventeenth century and contains several masterpieces including the tombs carved by Mino da Fisole and a wonderful painting by Filippino Lippi, the apparition of the Virgin to Saint Bernard.

To the right of the high altar, a slightly hidden staircase leads to the upper floor of the cloister of the Orangers. Frescoes relating the life of Saint Bernard as well as sinopias (drawings made with a brown-red pigment) decorate the sides of the cloister.
